About

MIT hosts several Freshan Pre-Orientation Programs (FPOPs) the week before the Fall semester begins to introduce students to a specific discipline.

I attended the Discover Mechanical Engineering (DME) FPOP (my first choice as an aspiring roboticist)!

The goal of DME is to introduce students who do not have a strong background in engineering to the basics of design and manufacturing, which is accomplished in the best way possible by building competitive robots.

We were tasked with building a remote-controlled robot to play soccer. This is Clutz, my soccer-playing bot. He has rear-wheel drivetrain and two spring-loaded flippers to kick the soccer ball. The wheels and flippers are controlled via remote controllers provided by DME program staff.
